Are You Prepared?
Home fires are America's biggest disaster threat, and unlike natural disasters, most home fires can be prevented.
The Red Cross is committed to teaching people the skills they need to prevent home fires, protect themselves should they experience a fire; and helping home fire victims.
The Safe Homes Safe Families initiative seeks to increase public awareness of fire safety in neighborhoods with high rates of residential fires and significantly reduce fire-related incidents in those areas.

The Bakers lost almost everything, including beloved pets and family heirlooms in an early morning fire in Worthington. "We never expected this to happen to us," said Hazel Baker. Red Cross volunteers arrived to find the home nearly destroyed. Volunteers were able to provide the family with blankets to keep warm - they had escaped wearing only what they wore to bed, a safe place to stay immediately after the fire, clothing and other basic necessities.
This family made it out safely, but unfortunately many others do not. Take a moment to review our fire prevention tips or take advantage of our free presentations. |
