Aquatics: Lifeguard Instructor Training

Lifeguard Instructor Training

Lifeguard posing with their trainerThis course prepares instructor candidates to use course and presentation materials, conduct training sessions and evaluate the progress of candidates in a professional-level course. Once authorised, Lifeguard Instructors may teach:
  • Basic-level Lifeguarding
  • Waterfront Lifeguarding
  • Waterpark Lifeguarding
  • Shallow Water Attendant
  • Lifeguard Management
  • CPR/AED for Lifeguards
  • Administering Emergency Oxygen
  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission
  • Basic Water Rescue
  • GuardStart: Lifeguarding Tomorrow
  • Water Safety presentations

The following Central, Ohio aquatic facilities have currently scheduled American Red Cross Lifeguard Training courses. It's never too late to join a winning team.

COURSE PREREQUISITES
 
Prerequisite skill testing is done the first day of class. Candidates who do not complete the prerequisite skill tests to the instructor's satisfaction will not be eligible to participate in the course. Most facilities do not offer refunds to participants who do not pass the prerequisites skill tests. Check with the facility manager before participating in the course.
  • Possess a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT) certificate. (FIT is often included in LGI training. Check with the facility manager prior to registration.)
  • Be at least 17-years of age on or before the last day of the instructor course.
  • Successfully complete the precourse session. This includes passing the precourse written exam with a score of 80% or higher for each of three sections and demonstrating competency in the precourse skills and scenario evaluation. Skills inlude but are not limited to entries, approaches, rescues and after-care.
