It is the mission of the American Red Cross to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. Today's American Red Cross aquatic programs consist of procucts, services, traditional classroom courses and online courses that train individuals to save lives. Swimming and Water Safety r.09 Update

 

The American Red Cross has released a newly revised and improved Swimming and Water Safety program that utilizes an inclusive approach to swimming and water safety and provides an increased emphasis in the areas of drowning prevention and water safety. The program continues the proud tradition of teaching people to swim and be safer in, on and around the water. The program includes courses for all age groups and varying abilities, as well as a variety of courses and presentations to help teach all age groups how to enjoy the water safely and how to stay safe in the event of an emergency. Included are new tools, such as newsletter and achievement cards for each level, to assist with better and more proactive communication with participants, parents and caregivers.

 

Current Water Safety Instructors (WSI) have two convenient options to update by December 31, 2009.

 

1. Attend a two hour group orientation hosted by a certified Water Safety Instructor Trainer at your local American Red Cross office. Cllick here to register for the next available class.

 

2. Complete a self-study orientation. Purchase the Swimming and Water Safety Instructor's Kit online from Staywell, complete the online update on Instructor's Corner and mail the self study verification form to American Red Cross of Greater Columbus - 995 E. Broad St. Columbus, Ohio 43205 C/S Water Safety r.09 Update.
