Volunteer Opportunities for Individuals
Prepare For and Respond to Disasters
Fires, floods, tornadoes – whatever the emergency, we’re there. 24-hours a day, the Disaster Response Team is ready to provide on-scene assistance to our neighbors affected by disaster. People who like to help others, counselors and medical personnel are needed for both local and national disaster response.
Keep Military Families Connected
Did you know that the first mission of the American Red Cross was serving members of the military and their families? More than one hundred and twenty-five years later, it remains a core part of the Red Cross mission today. Last year, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus conveyed more than 700 emergency messages to members of the military on behalf of their families back home and worked with the military to get personnel home to their families when emergency circumstances warranted. Whether you are telling new recruits about the ways in which the Red Cross can support them and their families or assisting with work here at the office, your involvement provides a link for service members and their families when they need it most.
Teach a Class
Did you know that each year we train more than 55,000 persons in vital life-saving courses such as first aid, CPR babysitting, eater safety and more? Consider becoming an instructor and help save a life by teaching these courses.
Take it on the Road
Help people live independently by volunteering as a Community Transportation Program driver. Transportation volunteers drive older adults and persons with disabilities to medical and other life-enhancing appointments.
Join the First Aid Services Team
Put your first aid and CPR skills to the test. Trained volunteers provide immediate care for injuries or sudden illness until advanced medical help arrives at OSU home football games, hockey and basketball games and other events in the community such as concerts and festivals.
Spread the Word
Be a Red Cross representative for our community awareness team. Inform others about the programs and services available through the Red Cross by staffing informational tables and/or speaking to groups in Franklin County.
Education Leader
Preparedness volunteers and community education leaders help us fulfill our mission. Join our Community Disaster Education (CDE) program and share the Be Red Cross Ready action steps to adults and to children using our famous Red Cross puppets.
