Volunteer: Be Part of the Solution

Are you committed? Compassionate? Community-minded?  Are you looking for an opportunity to provide services for the greater good of the community?

Volunteering for the American Red Cross may be for you!

The American Red Cross of Greater Columbus relies on volunteers to help people prepare for emergencies, provide training in lifesaving skills, assist those affected by disaster and provide transportation to critical medical appointments.

Without our 600+ dedicated volunteers serving in Franklin, Madison, Fayette and Pickaway counties, there would be no Red Cross. Why not join this dynamic group of individuals?

Rewards of Volunteering:

It's not home. It's not work. It’s somewhere in between. When you become a Red Cross volunteer, you join a new family. A family with a shared mission: helping others.

Volunteers often get back as much as they give; often much, much more! There are so many reasons to volunteer. Whether it's helping others recover from a family house fire, taking an older adult to a medical appointment or teaching a babysitting course, anyone who joins the Red Cross family will find a place to belong.

Often in return, volunteers find fulfillment, satisfaction, a sense of belonging, and pride. Working with others, helping others; no better feeling!

Nationally, volunteers constitute 96% of our total workforce, and locally, there are 19 volunteer positions filled for every one paid staff.

Getting Started

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities available to meet your talents, interests and availability. Our goal is to match you with an opportunity that best suits you. Whether you are a student looking to fulfill community service hours, a professional looking to share expertise, a student looking for more resume-building experience or an individual with the time and desire to work in his or her community, we’ll find a place for you.

In exchange, we’ll provide you meaningful experiences and an opportunity to make your community a better place to live.

How do I get started?

  1. Fill out an Inquiry Form or call the chapter at 614.253.2740, ext. 2355.
  2. Volunteer Resources staff will set up a time to meet.
  3. A volunteer application packet will be sent to you.
  4. Once the application process is complete, you will receive hands-on training and then begin to volunteer!

All volunteer applicants 18 and older are required to participate in a background check prior to engaging in volunteer service with the American Red Cross. Anyone who does not successfully complete the background check will not be eligible to volunteer.

Thank you for supporting the American Red Cross!
