American Red Cross Preparedness and Safety Solutions Programs are an investment in YOUR EMPLOYEES' safety.
Medical emergencies and accidents on the job cost American companies billion of dollars each year in lost wages, health care expenses, lawsuits, and worker's compensation claims. Reduce these costs by teaching your employees how to prevent workplace emergencies and how to properly respond to them when they do occur. (See Occupational Safety and Health Administration website)
At the American Red Cross, we’re committed to being your first choice for safety training. Our Workplace Training Program is a unique on-the-job training system that lets the employer select courses to meet their organization’s specific first aid, CPR, AED, and injury control training needs.
- Meets the first aid guidelines identified by OSHA, as well as current guidelines for Emergency Cardiac Care.
- Combines visual, auditory, and hands-on training to engage the range of learning styles.
- Authorized Red Cross instructors will assess employers’ needs and work with them to focus training sessions on unique risks and opportunities.
Training can be done seven days a week, 24 hours a day according to your organization's scheduling needs. A minimum of 8 students per class ensure a Red Cross instructor will come to your location.
Two ways to train: The American Red Cross Workplace Education programs offers companies two easy and inexpensive ways to teach employees how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Employers can choose between a "full-service" option where a Red Cross instructor comes to the workplace and teaches courses according to the company's scheduling needs. Companies can also elect to have members of their own staff certified as Red Cross instructors to teach fellow employees through an "authorized provider" agreement.

More Information:
Automated External Defibrillators, (AEDs) are a new, effective tool for saving lives during a sudden cardiac arrest. In the past year, 250,000 Americans died of sudden cardiac arrest: nearly one death every two minutes. Up to 50,000 of these deaths could have been prevented if someone had initiated the Cardiac Chain of Survival, and an AED had been available for immediate use at the time of the emergency. The machine guides the user through a series of voice prompts to administer the necessary care for a victim of cardiac arrest. AEDs are now widely used at airports, sporting arenas, shopping malls, as well as many businesses and are proven to be safe and effective. (More about AEDs)
The American Red Cross of Greater Columbus encourages community accessible defibrillation. Here are two on-line demonstrations that provide more information about AEDs and how they are used. (Demo One) (Demo Two). You can also contact the Workplace Education department at the Red Cross for more information, (614) 253-2740 Ext. 2573 or send email.
