Columbus community rich in history

The Columbus neighborhood known as Weinland Park, bounded roughly by Chittenden Avenue on the north, the Conrail railroad on the east, East Fifth Avenue on the south and North High Street on the west, experienced its greatest growth in the early 1900's as a working class neighborhood for those employed by the factories along the railroad tracks. Over time, as these industries declined, so too did the neighborhood.

Since then, CPO has renovated the homes, not only bringing them up to standard but restoring the historical character of many of the buildings.

In 2006, the city of Columbus adopted the Weinland Park Neighborhood Plan, building a new elementary school and police station and increasing public safety measures and commercial development. Efforts continue to restore Weinland Park to the vibrant neighborhood it once was.

How does the American Red Cross fit in?

Thanks to funding from JPMorgan Chase, the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus will eliminate the lack of transportation as a barrier to health care by offering free transportation service to medical appointments to residents in Weinland Park.
