Read Harris serves the Red Cross as Chief Service Officer. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Read graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology and later received his Masters of Public Administration from Western Kentucky University. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1981, was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Armor and went on to serve as a Special Agent in U.S. Army Counterintelligence for 12 years. After retiring from active duty in 2001 with the grade of Major, Read served as the Director of Community Health Services at the Louisville Metro Health Department overseeing 250 staff in 20 clinical locations providing preventive care, primary care, methadone services and Tuberculosis and Sexually Transmitted Infections treatments. He also worked to provide Health Education to diverse and at risk populations and to improve newborn health outcomes from 2001 until 2005. He took a position with the Louisville Area Chapter of the American Red Cross as Director of Health, Volunteer and Youth Services from 2005 until 2007. He moved to Columbus to take the Chief Service Officer position with the American Red Cross of Greater Columbus in July 2007. As CSO he is responsible for overseeing all external American Red Cross service activities such as disaster preparedness and response, First Aid/CPR training and the Community Transportation Program. |
