Volunteering Runs In The Family
Sisters Sharon Groves and Kim Tolliver are both nuses by trade. They both volunteer with the Diaster Health Services Team and the Disaster Action Teams, meaning they take shifts to be on-call when a nurse is needed during a disaster. American Red Cross volunteer nurses most often help replace medications and eyeglasses for people who have lost them as a result of a disaster, mostly fires.
The sisters are also the only two Disaster Health Services instructors at the chapter, meaning they can train other medical professionals to serve in this volunteer role.
Their mother is a retired teacher and their father is a retired Methodist minister who instilled a strong sense of community in both daughters.
They were raised no just to take, but to give back to the community. These lessons prompted them to volunteer throughout their lives, including their current service to the American Red Cross.
