 The American Red Cross of Greater Columbus understands the importance of safety and preparedness - an understanding shared by Philips Lifeline, the nation's leading medical alert service. To date, the American Red Cross and Philips Lifeline have provided monitoring service to over 50,000 seniors, allowing them to continue living independently while offering peace of mind to those who care for them. With Lifeline, older adults living at home have access to assistance whenever it's needed - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In-service B - Changing behaviors to prevents falls ... and the benefits of Lifeline to falls safety
Lifeline worked closely with Dorothy Baker, Ph.D., RNCS, a falls expert from Yale University, to develop an in-service on an effective approach to help seniors prevent falls. The in-service introduces techniques that the Yale research team, led by Mary Tinetti, MD, used to achieve a 30% reduction in falls for seniors living in the community.

- Understand the prevalence and consequences of falls among older adults
- Describe an approach to engaging older adults in fall prevention
- Discuss a model for behavior change that can help prevent falls
